Questions to ask before booking a kids activity

Activity descriptions are a useful starting point, but every family and every program is different. Before booking, confirm the details that affect suitability, safety, cost and the day-to-day experience.

Suitability and session format

Ask whether the age range is a strict requirement or a general guide, and whether previous experience is expected. It is also helpful to understand the typical group size and how instructors adapt activities for different confidence or ability levels.

  • What happens during a typical session?
  • How many participants and instructors are usually present?
  • Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
  • Can the provider support relevant accessibility or learning needs?

Costs, equipment and commitment

Look beyond the advertised session price. Confirm whether uniforms, materials, equipment, memberships, performances or excursions create additional costs. For multi-week programs, ask what happens if a child joins after the term begins.

  • What is included in the listed price?
  • Is any equipment supplied or available to borrow?
  • Are make-up sessions offered for missed classes?
  • What are the cancellation and refund conditions?

Communication and the next step

A clear provider should be able to explain how confirmations, schedule changes and important updates are sent. Check who to contact before or during a session and what information the provider needs from you.

Keep a copy of the booking confirmation and any important terms. If something remains unclear, ask before paying or committing to a longer program.

Good questions are not a sign that you expect problems. They help families and providers begin with the same expectations—and make the first session easier for everyone.
